As many of you
know, Say It Again was launched as a
project for school. This Advertising
Portfolio class is now coming to an end, so there remains the question, “What
happens to the blog?”
I find myself really
surprised that I’ve enjoyed having this blog quite a bit. When I first realized I was going to write a
blog, I got a little bit nervous.
Writing in and of itself wasn’t the problem, but just what would I write
about? It didn’t take me long to decide
that I definitely wasn’t going to blog about beer.
Why would someone who is so
passionate about beer not want to blog about beer?
There were several reasons
for this. During my first year at
Fontbonne, I had several projects, presentations and reports that all centered on
beer. This included a product pitch for
a beer finding app, a strategic implementation for Anheuser Busch and an essay
comparing beer and wine’s socioeconomic implications. This blog was going to be a fresh outlook for
me.
Another big reason I didn’t
want to make a beer blog was due to the fact that there are already so many out
there already. Just like beer itself,
there’s always room for another one out in the market, but it just has to be something
different.
As the deadline for our blog
entries approached, I couldn’t nail down any other subject matter besides
beer. What else was I going to be able
to write about week after week while contributing some amount of a unique
voice? The time came to sit down and type
out my first blog. If you’ve been
following along so far I think you know what happened.
Beer wins.
Not all too surprisingly,
I caved in and decided to make a beer blog.
Sure, I’ve already done a lot of projects about beer, but they were
actually pretty good. At least the
grades I received indicated that. Maybe
there are a lot of beer blogs already.
Everybody talking about beer and saying something different is what this
blog is all about. I wanted this blog to
be a platform where I could connect conversations, answer rhetorical questions
and shed light on the details that weren’t being discussed.
In the short
time that I’ve been a beer drinker, I feel like I’ve learned a lot about the
beer industry. Having been a home brewer,
a professional brewer, a beer salesman, and a beer bartender has given me many
opportunities to meet a lot of people and see so many things on different
levels of the business. This blog was a
great way for me to share what I’ve learned and hopefully provide all of you
with some new perspective on the beer world.
Now, just as quickly as this blog assignment came to me, it’s now coming
time to finish the semester. This brings
us back to the original question, “What happens to the blog?”
This is definitely
not goodbye!
Say It Again will live on. The biggest change will be the
frequency. With school and work, hitting
a weekly deadline became pretty tough.
My goal is to make Say It Again
a monthly blog. Aside from my opinion
pieces, I’d also like to introduce segments about my travels pertaining to beer
(past, present, and future), interviews will all types of beer people, and maybe
even some outside of beer discussion from time to time.
Thanks to
everyone who has given me feedback so far.
I
look forward to sharing more beer topics with you in 2015!
